Intentional Christian Counseling helps you solve problems by offering you faith-based solutions that are practical and supported by evidence-based psychologically sound models. Each session is approximately 45-50 minutes long. Some may request a “double session” which is dependent on availability.

Our goal at Intentional Christian Counseling is to make sure the value added, and the time invested genuinely helps you. For us, it’s never about the money. We’ll be glad to work with you depending on your situation. This is how we make our living and how we fulfill our financial commitments.

We are not authorized to prescribe medications. But we have a vast network of medical professionals that can offer their service should medications be prescribed or reviewed.

We must work on a “first come, first serve basis”. Our hours are flexible and we don’t want you to feel rushed. Look on the Schedule Appointment tab and we’ll confirm with you asap. Our goal is to confirm your appointment within the same day.

Pastor Shane sets his fees based on availability and should be discussed in advance. Each 1 hour session ranges from $90 to $125 per hour. It and must be pre-paid or paid at the beginning of the session. Venmo, Cash or Check is always best. There’s a $5 fee for credit and debit cards.

There are often times in life when certain issues or life events cause emotional distress, problems in relationships or change how we view ourselves and others. Often, individuals become overwhelmed with their emotions or their have problems in their relationships. They may have difficulty concentrating at work or school, withdraw from friends and family, or find their emotional pain to be unbearable. They feel anxious or unhappy for days at a time, can’t sleep, lose their appetite, or have problems communicating. As a trained professionals, we can help you through these difficulties and teach you the skills to handle issues and problems on your own. Problems that can be addressed in counseling are, but not limited to:

  • Have suffered a traumatic experience (even if long ago in childhood)
  • Spend 5 out of 7 days feeling unhappy
  • Regularly cannot sleep at night
  • Have lost someone or something (such as a job)

  • Feel that you can no longer manage your stress

Counseling is more than a treatment of mental illness. Some difficult issues we face in life are part of normal development. Sometimes it’s helpful to see what you’re going through is quite normal.

Professional counselors work with individuals, families, groups and organizations. Counseling is a collaborative effort between the counselor and client. Professional counselors help clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil; seek to improve communication and coping skills; strengthen self-esteem; and promote behavior change and optimal mental health. Through counseling you examine the behaviors, thoughts and feelings that are causing difficulties in your life. You learn effective ways to deal with your problems by building upon personal strengths. A professional counselor will encourage your personal growth and development in ways that foster your interest and welfare. 

 

Christian Counselors are very different from secular counselors. We approach issues with a biblical world-view. Not to say that our sessions are bible-studies, we just think the best place to start with simple facts that God made us and knows us and faith-values are timeless and can be trusted.

Professional counselors provide quality mental health and substance abuse care to millions of Americans. Professional counselors have a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling or a related field which included an internship and coursework in human behavior and development, effective counseling strategies, ethical practice, and other core knowledge areas.

 

Professional counselors adhere to a code of ethics that protects the confidentiality of the counseling relationship; prohibits discrimination and requires understanding of and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds; and mandates that professional counselors put the needs and welfare of clients before all others in their practice.

A receipt for counseling services can be provided for reimbursement through health insurance. Contact your health insurance carrier for more information and instruction.

Ideally, counseling is terminated when the problem that you pursued counseling for becomes more manageable or is resolved. Rarely does it take one session. The average is 6 to 10 sessions.

Professional Counselors adhere to Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice which require counselors to protect the confidentiality of their communications with clients. Most state licensure laws also protect client confidentiality. As a client, you are guaranteed the protection of confidentiality within the boundaries of the client/counselor relationship. Any disclosure will be made with your full written, informed consent and will be limited to a specific period of time. The only limitations to confidentiality occur when a counselor feels that there is clear and imminent danger to you or to others, or when elder, disabled adult, or child abuse is revealed.

Shane Craven

In his work with individuals and couples, pastors, staff members, church boards/elders, Shane draws off over 30 years as a lead pastor where he works with pastors, staff, men, couples, and families by offering spiritual direction, pastoral counseling and practical equipping.

As a pastoral counselor, executive coach, and trainer, Shane provides one-on-one counsel, group counsel, couples counsel, leadership development and training, team consulting and executive coaching to leaders in different types of organizations. His desire is to help couples, individuals, leaders and their teams identify and maximize their gifts, strengths and passions in order to fulfill their vision and mission. Healthy people and healthy cultures lead to successful and productive individuals, relationships and teams. Shane uses a variety of techniques derived from John Gottman Marital Therapy, Dr. Joe Beam Marriage 911, healthy living with Dr. Daniel Amen, Scripture, Robert Jackman & Healing the Inner Child, Solution Focused Therapy, Imago Therapy Principles, John Maxwell Leadership Coaching, and 30 years of Pastoral Coaching/Mentoring. Through the therapeutic process, Shane assists clients with converting negative, destructive, or counterproductive thought-processes and behaviors into more positive and beneficial ones. Everyone needs someone to listen, give them space to be heard, felt, seen, and known.

Shane earned two Degrees, one from The University of Georgia in Sociology and one from Immanuel Seminary in General Theology and has completed ninety percent of his course work in a Doctor of Ministry program. He has completed additional training and education in the areas of conflict resolution, leadership development and team building. Additionally, Shane provides training and coaching using the DiSC, Enneagram, Strength-finder, Spiritual Gift Inventory, Team Preference Inventory, and Sexual Blueprint Types.

Shane writes frequently on the topics of leadership development, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, marriage and family issues, Christian sexuality, and spiritual formation.

Shane and his wife, Kim, make their home in Birmingham, Alabama and are parents of three adult children, one daughter-in-law, two son-in-laws, and five grandchildren.

He has served as pastor in three states for over 28 years.
